The City of Humboldt's 2016 awards recognition night took place Tuesday night.

The Bantam AA Humboldt Dodgers baseball team was recognized for their provincial championship in 2015. They ran the table with a perfect 5-0 record, ultimately defeating Unity to secure the crown.

With the provincial title in their back pocket, they advanced to Westerns in St. Albert, Alberta, finishing in third place.

Lights Out Basketball, based out of Humboldt had their Under-15 team recognized after they won the provincial club championship. The program is among the leaders in Saskatchewan and continues to promote skill and character development.

Members of the Humboldt Hammerheads swim team were honoured on Tuesday night for their outstanding achievements in the pool. Charlize Parish, Sabrina Maclean, Maya Berscheid, Madison Mueller, Jay Eichorst, Cuyler Brooks, Justin Berscheid, Ryan Hinz, and Michael Carnago were all provincial gold medalists in one or more events in the summer.

Led by coaches Leisl Lefebvre, Deb Stumborg and Devin Cannon, the Hammerheads had 57 swimmers in their program throughout the summer, bringing home a wealth of hardware.

Pianist Brett Muyres was honoured for his outstanding work. The 16-year-old started taking piano lessons when he was five.

This year he was awarded with the June Barber Intermediate Bach as well as the Lazecki Memorial Intermediate Bach. The latter of which is given to the runner up to the Most Oustanding Intermediate competitor.

Also recognized were members of Calico Gymnastics for their efforts, which included a top team score at provincials for Kelsey Berscheid, Amber Niekamp, Kelly Romanuik, Heather Graf, and their coach Daisy Hart.

Residents were asked to nominate teams or individuals who have achieved a provincial championship or had a top 3 finish at a national or western Canadian level in any sport, cultural, or recreational activity.

Humboldt's annual awards recognition night was put on in partnership with the Humboldt Broncos and was held during the intermission at Tuesday night's Bronco game at the Elgar Petersen Arena.
