Looking to make physical activity more affordable in Humboldt, the city has announced new rates for their 2018 leisure pass.

The new rates, which go into effect on January 2, see a major decline in price, says Leisure Services Director Mike Ulriksen.

"Too often recreation is seen as a luxury rather than a necessity. We believe that physical activity is vital to a healthy and vibrant community and the reason for the change in our rate structure."

For adults, the new price on a one month pass is $40, which is down from $71, while a 12 month pass is now $384 - down from $682.

With the new rates, the city also simplified the process by eliminating three, six and nine month options, as well as punch cards.

"By improving our leisure pass program and simplifying our rate structure, we are excited to provide our community and surrounding areas with a greater opportunity to be active, at a more affordable rate," said Ulriksen.

The pass was originally created in 2013, and allows the holder to gain access to the fitness room, swimming, public skating, shinny, and drop-in sports.

Other announced rates include:

  • Youth age 6 to 11 - One Month: $30; 12 Months: $288
  • Youth age 12 to 18 - One Month: $35; 12 Months: $366
  • Family - One Month: $80; 12 Months: $768

The adult pass is for anyone 19 years of age or older.
