Students at Bruno School are lending an extra hand in more ways than one.

The school has introduced the Chores for Charity campaign, which will see students auctioned off for donations, and in return, they will perform duties for residents.

"Some students will be shovelling off people's driveway, some will set up Christmas trees, get their lights up, get Christmas baking ready or help do some light cleaning before the buyer's family will come," explained Jadyn Borstmayer, a student at the school and one of the campaign organizers. "We have Christmas buddies, which are students that go around with cards and visit with community members."

"We have our very own tech support crew who can help you out with any technology problems you may be facing, and even Christmas shoppers who will help you decide what to buy and pick-up up to five gifts."

The Chores for Charity campaign falls within the Charity Tree fundraiser that the school conducts each year. There is also a recipient of the funds for the school year, and Borstmayer says it is going to someone close to the school.

"This year it is going to a former student at Bruno School, Angela Knihnitski and her husband Shane, because he has a serious medical condition, so we are donating all the money to them."

On Thursday, at the community's flu clinic, which is also at the school, they will be passing along information and getting people signed up for the campaign. They are also taking calls at the school at anytime.

Borstmayer says that smaller centres need to rely on each other in times of need, and they enjoy being able to chip in.

"Giving back is especially important in a small community like Bruno," she noted. "Charity Tree has been around for decades at Bruno School, and this fundraiser is a great opportunity to give back at this special time of year and it is because of our amazing and supportive community that we are sure the Chores for Charity campaign will be a successful one."

Through the Charity Tree and other initiatives, Bruno School has taken a strong hold on leadership in general and is working towards being a 'Leader in Me' school.
