The town of Wadena is looking to slow down traffic in the four highway routes coming into town.

"On some of the entries into town, the 40km starts farther into the town limits than others. On one end it comes in right on the same street as where the school is, so we've put up radar speed signs out by the school just to remind people to slow down to 30km because it's a school zone," says Chief Adminstrative Officer for the Town of Wadena, Ferne Hebig.

Also, the town has received feedback from the Wheatbelt company, which resides on the eastern limits of town. Hebig estimates that the build-up of salt from the highway that can get sprayed onto the Wheatbelt lot and damage to their vehicles and equipment could be their reason for wanting the sign moved back.

The town currently has all highway entrances going from 100km, to 70km, to 40km within the centre of town.

As far as the east end of town, toward Wheatbelt, (a company on the edge of town), Hebig says the "slow to 70" sign is often ignored and drivers often don't slow to 70 right away, "so they're still going 100 km as they're going past that business."

The changes in speed limits within Wadena will be discussed at an upcoming council meeting, and in the meantime, the town is looking at putting another radar to slow down traffic entering the town.
