The Golden West Radio Great 8 contest is continuing this month through our sister station in Moose Jaw, CHAB and DiscoverMooseJaw.

As part of the contest eight communities are receiving votes with the winning centre getting $5,000 for their local project.

The Town of Watrous is in the running hoping to land the cash for a new daycare.

Earl Amendt, co-owner of Centennial Ford in Watrous says he will double the prize if they win, he knows how crucial that can be for a town.

"Absolutely, it's always a big drawing card if you've got the kids looked after and the parents don't have to look a that part of the equation."

A committee has been working on the development of a centre for some time and after seeking an already constructed site they determined a new building is the best avenue to move forward.

Amendt is excited about the initiative, something he says isn't surprising in their town.

"No, they did it a few years ago with the hockey rink, they did a terrific job. The community always gets behind things like this so we're happy to get involved."

"I'm hoping I have to write the cheque," Amendt added. "It's a great initiative, the committee has done a lot of work, we hope to make it a home run for the community."
