The Kelsey Trail Health Region lifted the visitor restriction that was in place at the Carrot River Health Centre on Friday.

The restrcition was put in place on May 5th after five residents showed symptoms associated with respiratory illness.

After lab tests it was confirmed that an outbreak was caused due to Parainfluenza. The upper or lower repiratory area can become infected by the illness.

Several long term care residents were impacted by the outbreak.

Precautions and long term care resident activities were cancelled at the facility during the restriction to help contain and minimize the spread of the virus.

"Visitors are asked to stay away from health care facilities when they are showing signs of illness," said KTHR Medical Health Office Dr. Mohhammed Khan. "Visitors are also asked t o exercise caution, including using hand cleanser or hand sanitizer, when entering and leaving health care facilities in an effort to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases."

Spread of illness can also be prevented by using a tissue or sleeve to cover coughs or sneezes, clean all surfaces, especially taps, railings, door handles, and counters.

If ill, stay at home for at least 48 hours after the last symptoms.
