Carl Schenn Park will be getting upgraded this weekend thanks to Humboldt Citizens for Better Playgrounds.

The group has been working the past couple years doing fundraisers and getting sponsors on board to make the project happen.

Kelly Soderholm with Better Playgrounds says this installation would be impossible without the help from certain individuals and organizations.

"We're just really appreciative of everybody who's stepped on board here, a special thank you to the City of Humboldt for funding and also making this happen, to all of the people who have donated money, and through grants and everything else, without your support, without the volunteers and everything, this wouldn't have happened."

Richardson Pioneer, Community Initiatives Fund, PotashCorp, Humboldt Kinettes and the Good Neighbour Store provided funding for the structure.

Tim Horton's and the Humboldt Coop are providing snacks for the volunteers this weekend.

They are still in need of a few volunteers for the playground equipment installation said Soderholm, "mainly for Friday right now, we look like we have roughly a good number on Saturday and Sunday but any help is welcomed but right now we are a little low for Friday for volunteers."

Call Carmen Fraser at 682-4907 if you can lend a hand with the installation, or Kelly at 231-6079.

Soderholm explained what phase one includes, "that is to put the big structure in, swings and next year we are hoping to get enough funding for phase two so that we can have a toddler area and add on some other things. this year it was also important for us to get in some special lighting."

She added that the lighting will make night time use of the playground possible and also to cut back on any graffiti.

Humboldt Citizens for Better Playgrounds is a non-profit organization that plans to eventually revitalize all of the community playgrounds after the completion of Carl Schenn.
