Green is no longer mean in Canada as the Great White North has become only the second country in the world to legalize Cannabis.

October 17th, 2018 was the set date after the original date was set for Canada Day. Now the citizens of Canada can use marijuana medically, recreationally, and even grow it. As for Humboldt, legalization day did not have a major effect on the community.

Humboldt is not in possession of a store yet, but a proposal was made by Canopy Growth Corp. to council a couple of weeks ago for a Cannabis retail shop at the Humboldt commons. Public hearings will take place on November 13th during the council meeting at city hall as people will be able to express any concerns about the shop at the public hearing.

"There are restrictions both by the province and the Federal Government on what this storefront can look like and it won't be obvious that it's a Cannabis store," said Donna Harpauer, Finance Minister for the Government of Saskatchewan.

"Any retail business within Humboldt is always an asset, we don't know yet cause this is a very uncharted territory, It's been kinda rushed by the Federal Government. We have no clue what the retail sales will be like."

Only 7 stores opened throughout the province for the first day of legalization.
