The week of May 14th to the 20th is designated as Canada Road Safety Week, a 7-day national campaign aimed at making Canada's roads the safest in the world. The goal is to increase public compliance with safe driving practices in order to save lives and reduce injuries on Canada's roads.

Each of the seven days in the campaign is geared toward a particular focus. Each day during the course of the safety week, Discover Humboldt and 107.5 Bolt FM will provide a look at the specific issue along with insights from traffic, law enforcement and safety experts.

Canada Road Safety Week is a project coordinated by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police (CACP) and more specifically, by the CACP Traffic Safety Committee. The theme for this year's campaign is "Don't be the driving force behind traffic collisions." The message is a caution to drivers, but it also speaks to empowering drivers to be the "driving forces" to adopt changes and promote safe driving behaviours. National Enforcement Day is part of the week-long messaging, and this year that day is Saturday, May 18. With the legalization of cannabis and the upcoming legislation on edible cannabis production, the proposed focus is on drug-impaired driving.

Other areas of focus throughout the week will include alcohol-impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving, and seat-belt use.
