Santa Day wasn't the only reason to celebrate for the people of Watson.

The federal government announced that a Canada 150 grant will be given to the community in order to help curb the cost of repairs to the Civic Centre roof.

Member of Parliament for the Yorkton-Melville constituency, Cathy Wagantall joined in on the festivities.

She talks about why it was important to give this funding to Watson.

"Our smaller communities are so crucial to the overall joy and life of our whole riding. The cities really do depend a lot on the agriculture and manufacturing and industries that are out on our rural parts of the country."

Wagantall says it was good to come home to her riding and announce the news.

"It's one of my biggest pleasures. I mentioned tonight to the folks that were here, the large crowd that nothing's better than coming home and being part of activities in the very lively communities. Having all the children, and just the activity and to be able to be part of that really just keeps you grounded."

Watson Mayor Norma Weber was also on hand for the announcement.

She says the Canada 150 funding was crucial to the project being complete.

"Everyone knows that funding is always tight in small communities, if it's for infrastructure or various areas. So it's huge, it's a chunk of money that we don't have to raise or take out of our budget now."

Weber describes the condition the roof was in.

"Before the funding, we were having some leaking problems, and we were having some drainage problems. It was time that our roof was redone and we knew that it was just a matter of time before we absolutely had to have it done. So now when this grant came along we decided to have it done and over with."

Over $60,000 in repairs have been conducted to the roof.
