After years of temporary facilities, fundraising and sponsorship's, Calico Gymnastics have their first permanent home.

The new building was unveiled on Saturday to the public, with an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Carolynn MacLean is the President of Calico Gymnastics.

She says the new building will see it's first major competition in the near future.

"We are hosting our first competition for our competitive athletes in February, on the weekend of the 4th and 5th, so please come by and check it out that weekend. And don't forget our fall classes are wrapping up and winter registration will be coming so get your kids involved and they'll enjoy the new building."

MacLean says this couldn't have been done without the help of sponsors.

"Shout out to our All Around Sponsors, Conexus, Discovery Group of Companies, GVG Construction and the City of Humboldt. As well as our Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Friend Sponsors. Thank you so much for making this dream come true."

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench was part of the festivities.

He told us his first impression of the new building.

"When I walked in this afternoon, I couldn't help but be impressed with how bright and how awesome the facility was. It's something that's come a long ways since the early days when the Gymnastics club operated out of the old St. Augustine Church basement in the early 2000's."

Muench explains his excitement for the new building.

"It's going to be an awesome thing for us. It's a good thing for youth and the community. Like I say, the joint use agreement we have is going to allow people from the community, through the schools, to utilize the facility as well."
