Continuing on with steady growth, the City of Humboldt's communications department aims to consistently stay on top of technology to enable ease of use for many of the city's functions.

With the growth that the area has seen, it was time to adopt a new plan as Director of Communications Jennifer Brooks explained.

"The largest initiative that we took on this year was the official community plan renewal," she said. "What that means is we worked with a number of different agencies, departments, businesses and industry to create a long term growth and land use master plan for the community."

Brooks added that they expect to finalize the plan as well as zoning bylaws early in the new year.

A significant part of adapting to technological advancements was the re-design of the city's website, humboldt.ca.

The big unveiling was made in July 2014, but this year, they were presented with an award from the Web Marketing Association.

"It was an outstanding achievement award for some of the work we have done for content, our use of innovation, integration, and other things that we have to make information available to residents and businesses."

Among the other highlights of 2015 for Brooks was the city's involvement in the CTV Hometown Tour. In June, the Saskatoon broadcaster came out during the Summer Sizzler to document a touch of Humboldt history.

The city made another appearance on TV with the release of Hellmann's Mayonnaise and their "real ingredients from real places" feature, which starred the Fleischhacker family.

Looking ahead to the new year, Brooks and the city are excited about SeeClickFix, which is an app that will allow you to engage the city with any issues, concerns or other feedback.

"Its something that people can take on their smartphones and we're really excited about it."

They will also be looking to improve emergency communications along with the new SaskAlert program.
