A chaotic incident on Highway 5 earlier this month has landed a man a three year jail term.

34 year-old Buchanan resident Kristopher-Lee Steenman was originally facing 17 charges including Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, two counts of Assaulting a Police Officer and three counts of Assault with a Weapon but he was sentenced on only nine following guilty pleas this week in Yorkton court.

Acording to a news release, the May 4th event began after the vehicle Steenman was driving was pulled over for a burned out tail light. After initially stopping, the driver suddenly reversed and rammed the police vehicle. It then turned around, the vehicle again rammed the police unit; this time, head-on.

The suspect exited the vehicle carrying an axe and proceeded to strike the police vehicle while yelling threats.

He was eventually subdued and arrested.

Buchanan is located 175 kilometres east of Humboldt.
