The Humboldt Broncos hosted a media conference at 2pm on Sunday afternoon, providing updates and giving information ahead of the candlelight vigil that is set to begin at 7:00pm at the Elgar Peterson Arena.

One of the announcements by Broncos' President Kevin Garinger involved one of the hockey players who survived the accident. The player had been released from hospital in Saskatoon, and is the first person involved in the collision to be released from hospital care.

Geringer stated that updates on the status of their players and the team trainer, Dayna Brons, will be provided after they have been able to talk with the families involved.

Geringer was asked if the Humboldt Broncos would be playing again this season, and Geringer confirmed that the team will not be playing until next season. The Broncos' will begin preparing for the next season after they care for the families involved in the accident.

A reporter asked Geringer to comment on Head Coach and General Manager Darcy Haugen, who passed away in the accident. Geringer held back tears as he said that Darcy was an incredible coach, husband and father. He added that Haugan believed that as a general manager and head coach, it was not about building hockey players...it was about building great young men.

Humboldt Mayor Rob Muench also spoke during the 35-minute session, and reiterated his gratitude to everyone who has offered condolences, donated money, volunteered as a crisis counselor, and to the extended community of Saskatchewan and Canada for their kindness during this time.

Both Muench and Geringer believe that Sunday night's candlelight vigil will be an important part of the healing process. Families of the victims will be in attendance, as will Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe.
