The Humboldt Broncos have their crop in the ground for their second year of their Seed for Green, Harvest for Gold fundraiser.

The Knaus family has worked with the hockey club to provide 100 acres of land south of the city that was planted with canola.

"The Humboldt Broncos approached the ag community of Humboldt again and they have all graciously stepped up as usual," explained Organizer Ross Ruedig. "This is our second year of a three year lease agreement wiht the Knaus family and we have it seeded."

Perry Thompson from Farmworld planted 100 acres of canola in their leased field south of Humboldt last Thursday.

"We're a local business, we do help out our local teams, we want to keep giving back to the community. It was a good time here spraying and seeding and they seem to raise a decent amount of money out of it."

Barring any shortfalls during the growing season the team could see $35,000 in profit from the initiative which is also backed by Hergott Farm Equipment, KMK Sales, Richardson Pioneer, Humboldt Co-op and Crop production Services.

You can hear more from both Ruedig and Thompson below as they spoke to Bolt FM's Clark Stork.
