Jaskirat Sidhu, the driver of the semi from the night of April 6th, 2018, 29 years of age from Calgary, has been arrested.

Sidhu was taken into custody this morning without incident and was given the following criminal code charges:

  • 16 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death Section 249 (4) CC
  • 13 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily injury Section 249 (3) CC

The accused will be in court next week and will remain in police custody.

The RCMP noted, "these are serious criminal code charges."

Over the past three months over 100 different investigators were involved in this case assisting the 20 core investigators, over 6000 photos were taken, collision reenactment, and analyzed all the documentation, including drive log book.

The investigation included looking at the speed, the point of the impact, the position of the vehicles, impairment, road and weather conditions, were taken into consideration.

The jail time that could be dealt out, in this case, is upwards of 14 years for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm is upwards of 10 years.

Investigators met with the families this morning and divulged the charges.
