On Monday last week, Ryan Straschnitzki, an Airdrie survivor of the Humboldt tragedy, was involved in a vehicle accident on his way back from physiotherapy.

Straschnitzki suffered a PTSD attack after the bus he was in was rear-ended. Strachnitzki's father, Tom, says the accident occurred during rush hour on the way back into Airdrie from Calgary.

"Ryan was on his way back from his physiotherapy and the bus was just coming into Airdrie and it was a rush hour so the bus was slowing down. I guess the person behind the bus wasn't paying attention and rammed the bus from behind."

Strachnitzki says that Ryan immediately suffered from a mental attack and had to be talked down on the phone.

"Well, he got thrown from his wheelchair and he phoned me right away. I had to put it on speakerphone cause we were dealing with the other three kids and he basically was back to April sixth."

Strachnitzki says his son was a little shaken up following the accident, but a trip from Toronto settled him.

"He's doing okay. If he has issues he lets us know. We just got back from Toronto where he met some of the boys there and he had a good weekend there so that got his mind off of it."

Ryan has been attending counseling to help with ongoing issues and is seeing improvement. However, sometimes there are moments he struggles.

"He kind of goes in and out of what I call trances where he'll talk to you and he'll just kind of 'boop'; he won't be with you for a little bit. Then you've got to talk him back to where we are," comments his father, Tom.

Strachnitzki says that seeing his son suffer through yet another vehicle accident was difficult.

"That was a tough one, that one on Monday."
