Bourgault Industries' Seeding is Believing field day in St. Brieux this week attracted about 250 producers.

Farmers had a chance to tour their facility before checking out the field demonstrations and agronomy plot tours.

Marketing Specialist Rob Fagnou said one of the units they had a chance to see was the new STS 360 Seed Prep.

This spring was the first time that farmers had an opportunity to work with the Seed Prep unit.

"It really did help in those areas where they had a lot of ruts from fall harvest and from spring," said Fagnou. "It also helped in dealing with straw - where they had excessive straw - and helped them get the field ready so they actually were able to have something that they could seed consistently into."

Fagnou said it was good to be able to compare different machines.

"An XTC 66-foot PHD drill, that was paired with a 7950 airseeder. And we also had one of our 3420 80-foot drills. The new foldback design system," he said. "Those two were seeding against eachother, showing differences between the PHD and XTC openers."

He said the XTC is a true one to one opener that contours very closely to the land making it ideal for washouts, draws or hills giving a more consistent shallow seed depth, while the PHD is the two-to-one opener that gives more flexibility with wider openers and a faster speed than the XTC and provides more forgiveness in seeding depth.
