Humboldt blood donors gathered at Jubilee hall on Monday night for the Humboldt blood donor clinic.

There is always a constant need for more blood donations, as half of Canadians will either need blood or know someone who will.

Glenda Bell is a registered nurse that was in charge of the Humboldt blood clinic.

She talks about the importance of donating blood.

"There is a constant need for blood for the recipients so we're always working within the hospitals to make sure there is enough supply in there for people who are in need."

Bell describes what Canadian Blood Services does with the donations.

"We have a couple of options that we can do with the unit of blood that the donors are giving us. We send it to the lab, they spin off the red cells, the iron part of the blood, the other option they have is they also separate off plasma, they can freeze it which is good for one year."

Bell explains donors will have to wait until they donate again.

"We have them wait 56 days, we are taking some iron from them, we're not knocking down a whole lot, but we are knocking it down enough that we want to give them the two months to build the iron back up so they have to wait at least 56 days."

January 9th is the next time Humboldt will hold a blood donor clinic.
