It was another successful year for local businesses in Humboldt and area this Black Friday.

The adopted promotional theme from the United States proved an effective sales strategy for many small business owners in Humboldt and area.

Olivia Coffin, the owner of Humboldt fine jewelry store, Diamonds of Detroit, says that this year's Black Friday sales offers at her store attracted many local shoppers to partake in the special, one-day-only sale.

"This morning, it started off with a bang. We opened up early and haven't stopped since."

Coffin says the choice to open at 7 am was such a success last year, that she opened early again this year. Diamonds of Detroit, along with other businesses in the area, enticed shoppers through door crashers, 1/2 price deals, and many stocking stuffer options.

Black Friday sales offer customers a chance to pick up some bargains and get a start on some Christmas shopping.

"It's another great idea to give our customers a bit of a break at Christmastime, get some good deals and look around town and see what's available."

Shopping local is a great way to keep Humboldt's economy thriving, especially when competition from online retailers and stores within larger markets are doing their best to draw in Black Friday shoppers on the same day.
Coffin says she is pleased to see Humboldt and area customers seeking out Black Friday deals from small businesses like hers, rather than larger retailers. The response from the Humboldt community has been positive and enthusiatic this year.

"It's great to see people coming in and purchasing their Christmas items here."
