Big Brothers Big Sisters of Humboldt and Area welcomed guests on Friday as they held a new fundraising event.

The Big Night Out was in co-operation with Boston Pizza and allowed attendees the opportunity to support the organization and enjoy a pizza, pasta, salad buffet.

Servers within the community helped out during the event, including Mayor Rob Muench, Dean Hergott and Mark Seidel of HSA Chartered Professional Accountants, Calum McAnally from Bolt FM, and Layne Matechuk, Parker Tobin, and Derek Patter of the Humboldt Broncos.

Development Coordinator Jodie Hergott noted it is a new way for them to help out their activities.

"Funds that we raise always go towards programming to keep our doors open and keep the services offered to children of Humboldt and area who require it."

Hergott says that with new money coming in they are restoring a pair of programs that have been off for a few years.

"Currently we are gearing up to start our Game On program, which has been dormant for a few years. Our Go Girls program is also starting up. We have in school mentoring programs launching in Muenster and those take place here in Humboldt as well."

The Game On program assists with teenage boys, while the Go Girls program is aimed towards teenage girls.

Hergott says that they are always looking for volunteers as well to help with various events.
