The Humboldt and District Food Bank has some exciting news.

Board Member Kelly Shepherd tells us what's ahead for the essential non-profit organization.

"We're just really excited to announce that we are going to be saying goodbye to our current facility. We're going to be tearing it down and putting up a new one, it's old and it doesn't pay at this point in time to put money into repairs into it."

Shepherd says a couple generous posthumous donations will allow them to move forward with the build.

"We've been really fortunate over the years here we've had a couple people leave us money to set aside for a new building or repairs and maintenance at our current facility."

Shepherd wants the public and their clients to know they will be located at 1726 3rd Avenue until the new building is constructed.

That will begin with the go ahead from city staff.

"As soon as the permits are in place we're going to be ripping it down," Shepherd explained. "People only come once a month, people who were here last week might come in three weeks from now and there won't be a facility there. We just want to get the address out there so people get the location of the temporary depot."

Shepherd also stressed how they are handling donations, they will continue to use their everyday revenue to operate and purchase food for their clients, they have a separate account for the building fund that can be donated to. Contact the bank at 231-9970 if you would be able to help out.

The bank is open to the public every Tuesday from 2-4pm.

Shepherd says he hopes they are in the new facility by late Fall.
