Big Brothers Big Sisters continues to promote relationships to help change lives.

September is Big Brothers Big Sisters month in Humboldt, and the organization is sharing stories of some of their current bigs and littles.

"I chose to volunteer when I moved to Humboldt because I found I had a lot of spare time. I grew up with younger siblings that have now moved away from home, so I thought it would be a good spot for me to be a big," explained Tennille, one of the current bigs in the organization. "I also thought it would be a good way to meet new families and people in the community."

She was paired up with Ariana in October 2016, and says that they have developed a good relationship.

"It's very rewarding. I love spending time with Ariana and listening to her open up to me and seeing how much she has grown as a person since we first met," explained Tennille. "Also, how much fun we have and how much she confides in me when we're together. It's a great experience."

Part of spending time together means plenty of enjoyable activities, according to Ariana.

"Swimming, bowling, ride horses," she noted, also explaining a new trip they were taking. "We're going to a corn maze."

Tennille added that they also do activities with a theme for the season.

"Paint Easter eggs, or go to the beach. We went to the fireworks on July 1," she said.

Tennille recommends the organization to anyone who is looking to make an impact in someone's life, adding that time isn't as big an issue as you may think.
