Big Brothers Big Sisters is recognizing those involved in the program for their efforts within the community and making a difference.

The first award goes to Aerionna Fischer, with the Brody Hinz Youth of the Year Award. The award recognizes youth who demonstrate community involvement and an ability to be resourceful and helpful in and around the community. Fischer volunteered her time over the summer to help with Art Therapy Classes, She also loves to dog sit for her neighbours as well as be incredibly helpful around the house. Big Brothers Big Sisters were thrilled to give the award to Fischer, wanting to recognize her and celebrate her impact on the community.

The second award goes to Jane Albers, with the Tyler Bieber Mentor of the Year Award. Jane has been in the program for 4 years, and has mentored one Little Sister throughout her time. Jane cares deeply for her Little and family, and goes above and beyond for her Little, developing a routine, helping her with homework, learning countless crafts, and teaching important life skills that will benefit her Little Sister for years to follow. BBBS is proud to give this award to Albers, as she has been a major asset to the agency. Albers is often seen selling various tickets for fundraisers, attending group activities, and giving ideas to the agency for new experiences for the kids.

Albers states, “I thought about becoming a Big Sister for years. I never had a daughter and I don’t have any grandkids. I always enjoyed being a Mom and an Auntie and figured since everyone was grown up I could make the time to commit to becoming a mentor to a little girl like I’d always hoped to have. I didn’t want to have any regrets later in life, always wishing I’d done it. It truly has been one [of] the best and most rewarding decisions I have ever made! I absolutely love being a Big Sister and supporting this very worthwhile organization.”
