September was Big Brothers Big Sisters Month in Canada, throughout the month in Humboldt, BBBS held a burger challenge with Johnny's Bistro, Rookies, and Boston Pizza participating.

Two competitions were held between the three business. One for most burger combos sold and another for the tastiest.

"Boston pizza sold 304 combos, so they sold the most, Johnny's was a very close second," said Jodie Hergott, Development Coordinator of BBBS Humboldt.

The 304 combos sold by Boston Pizza amounted to $1216 which was then topped up to $1,500 by the company.  Boston Pizza also took home the awards for tastiest when they rolled out their Perogy Burger.

"The money will go towards our programs, making our matches, and trying to get that waitlist down in numbers. If we could get it to zero that would be a real thrill."

It was a tight race as Johnny's Bistro was right behind Boston Pizza with 290 combos sold, amounting to $1,160. Rookie's finished third with 48 combos sold.

Currently, the waitlist at BBBS sits at around 20 kids. "We definitely saw an increase in the spring. We went from 17 to 24 kids. Anyone can apply online or definitely give us a call at the office and we'd be more than happy to get their application rolling and answer any questions they had."

Coming up for BBBS in the future is their Bowl for Kid's Sake.
