Looking to bring change, Harley Bentley is seeking the seat of Mayor in Humboldt.

"I have lived in Humboldt for close to 20 years. I have made this my home and have invested in this community in many ways," he explained. "It is easy to stand back and watch the errors and share the same frustrations as so many other people. I believe the best way to effect change is to step up and lead. To take that frustration and turn it into something positive."

Among the issues Bentley notes, is infrastructure, where he says that he will hire local contractors to create more jobs in Humboldt.

He also says that the city has made temporary fixes.

"Band-aid repair is costly and ineffective in the long term. I would work to ensure that needed repairs and upgrades, as well as new development is met with careful scrutiny and planning," said Bentley. "As your Mayor, I will focus on fiscal responsibility in the areas of growth, development and infrastructure, that puts the needs of the citizens first."

While canvassing potential voters, Bentley noted that most residents he has talked to feel the city hasn't used money wisely.

"It is crystal clear that the residents that I have spoken to do not feel valued. Their tax dollars are not spent wisely," he said. "As Mayor, I would ensure that the public is engaged to a greater level. Their voice should be represented on boards and committees. Public meetings should be held when the public is available to participate."

Continued growth in the business community is also vital to Humboldt's future, and Bentley feels he has a plan that would help maintain that aspect.

"I will commit to implementing more incentives for businesses to start, grow, and be sustainable. Our businesses are important to more than just the citizens of Humboldt, but to the greater area and the province," he stated. "Creating more employment and inviting new businesses into Humboldt - with incentives - will benefit our community."

The ballot for Mayor on October 26 will see Bentley go up against Councillor Rob Muench as well as Shawn Wempe.
