The Humboldt and Area Refugee Coalition is preparing to welcome a Syrian refugee family to the city by holding a benefit concert this Saturday.

The event will feature six different acts which include the Horse's Mouth, Ray Whitton, 40oz Philosophy, Magik Radix, and Trevor Ross.

Andy McAnally with the coalition says attending the benefit concert is just one way to help out.

"It's a busy time of year for people so we understand if people can't make it to the event, they can certainly come to our store, Causeway Natural Health and make a donation, and we've already had people come in and say they'd love to come to the concert but they can't make it but here's a donation, and we're taking donations for prizes as well."

Tickets are just $15 each and are available at Causeway Natural Health and the Newcomers Centre.

"We could have a Syrian refugee family within the end of the week, it's not written in stone yet but it looks very likely at this point," explained McAnally. "For those who may not be aware, we need to raise at least $30,000 for each family so we may have one or two families coming to our area very, very quickly."

Saturday's event gets kicked off at 7pm at the Gathering Place.
