When the City of Humboldt heads to the polls Wednesday, October 26, 11 people will appear on the ballot for council.

One of those is businessman Michael Behiel, who says that he can help bring business to the city.

"I think the time has come where we need to not only increase accountability, but work more aggressively to attract business and enterprise into town," explained Behiel. "That, along with the fact that we need independent businessmen in council that can recognize these opportunities and know the struggles we face so we can make attractive packages to entice business to move into town."

Behiel shared his thoughts on how the city can continue to bring in money.

"It's not only important that we don't increase the tax base, but that we start to tap into some of our unrecognized potential by trying to attract additional business opportunities into town, which would provide us with a much larger tax incentive base to use."

He added that there are opportunities out there that haven't been touched on as of yet.

"Right now, I think the main issue is that the city isn't capitalizing on the possibilities that could be put into Humboldt in terms of business and enterprise that would allow us to become the shining example in the province that we should be."

Behiel followed that up with stating that his intentions would be to help bring that new potential to the city.

"I would work with the rest of council to try and identify opportunities that should be in Humboldt that aren't in existence right now and seeing what we could do to put steps forward to attract these businesses and increase our tax base and allow for additional infrastructure and possibly a lower tax base."

Appearing on the ticket along with Behiel are: Justin Arendt, Sandor Demeter, Larry Jorgenson, Owen Hopfner, Amanda Klitch, Francis Kunz, Roger Nordick, Lorne Pratchler, Terry Schatz and Sandy Weyland.
