Professional theatre is returning to Humboldt.

Elise Forier Edie stars in a one-woman play called The Pink Unicorn, which will take place on Friday night at the Community Gathering Place.

Arts Humboldt is bringing in the show, and Treasurer Brian Grest gives us some background on the plot.

"It's a story about a woman who lives in Texas and she is trying to deal with small town attitudes as her daughter grows up and goes to high school," he explained. "Her daughter has identified herself as transgender and the mother is reflecting on the things she is thinking and dealing with as the community reacts to that."

Grest says that bringing in a professional group is an opportunity for art enthusiasts to show that Humboldt has an appetite for added culture.

"The big thing is, Humboldt hasn't had a professional theatre group come and do a live performance in quite some time," he noted. "We're really hoping people can get behind this event and show Arts Humboldt that there is a need for some live theatre."

Grest added that potential funds from the show will be banked for the future.

"If there is any money made off this event, Arts Humboldt will be putting it aside to help equip and furnish the future proposed performing arts facility that will be coming to Humboldt."

Tickets for the play are available at Shoppers Drug Mart, or from any Arts Humboldt member. They are $20 per ticket.
