The Humboldt JDRF walk to cure diabetes took place on Sunday morning at the Uniplex.

The walk aims to raise funds for research for type 1 diabetes and to improves the lives of those who live with the disease.

Maria Strasser said the walk was very successful, "it's a little bit down from other years but across the country with how the economy is and stuff most walks were down a little bit, it kinda surpassed our expectations to be honest with you."

This year's walk brought in $27,552.

Over 80 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to research to find a cause and cure for type 1 diabetes.

"We had about 140 walkers which is almost even more than we expected, it was a beautiful day, we had lots of support so it was just overall a really great success," explained Strasser.

Strasser extended thanks to the City of Humboldt for supplying the Uniplex.

Leading this year's walk was the Humboldt Fire department, EMT's, RCMP, as well as the A&W bear.
