The Annaheim Playground Committee is one step closer to reaching its fundraising mark for a new playground for the community.

The committee received a generous donation of $5000 from the Village of Annaheim on August 10th to go towards the budget that's been accumulating for a new playground.

"We have to completely demolish and replace the existing playground. It's now over 20 years old. So we are getting close to that goal now," said Annaheim Playground Committee board member, Angie Peake.

The quote that the Annaheim Playground Committee was given was $123,000 for a new playground and they are nearly at their mark.

"We had our last meeting in June and with the most recent donation, we are right around the $90,000 mark."

The new playground will go along way for the community, which for its size, presents a difficult journey to reach the funds needed.

"That $5000 donation definitely helped. It means tons to the committee, and we're one step closer to that goal now.  It's been a long hard struggle with a lot of smaller donations and fundraisers. It's a hard goal to achieve for a small community like ours and a small board group that's doing this. What it will mean is a better play structure for our kids. We have a decent number in our school, and we have lots of up and coming ones to our school, so a new playground would be wonderful."

A little help here, and a little help there, the funds could soon hit their mark, and in turn, put many smiles on kid's faces in the Village of Annaheim.
