The Humboldt area could see five millimeters of rain and five centimeters of snow as an Alberta Clipper tracks across central Saskatchewan today.

"Wet snow is spreading across the northern Grainbelt this morning, generally north of the Yellowhead Highway corridor," Environment Canada says in a special weather statement.

"Six to 12 centimeters of snow can be expected today and this evening before the snow tapers off from west to east overnight."

Strong northwest winds will develop early this evening and continue tonight, with widespread wind gusts up to 80 km/h forecast for much of the south and west.

Conditions will improve as a ridge of high pressure builds in from the west, and the system will be mostly gone by Thursday morning.
