The annual Agriculture Safety Day was held on Wednesday at LeRoy School.

Shari Hinz from Safe Communities Humboldt & Area tells us why an event like this is important to have.

"There's a number of students who either live on the farm or visit the farm and for them to be aware of the risks associated with the equipment, livestock, those sorts of things, it's really important for them to learn about that, instill that culture of safety with them at a young age, so that when they grow up and have their own families it hopefully stays with them."

Students in grade 1-6 from Watson, Enlgefeld, and LeRoy attended the event. Hinz tells us more about what the kids learn about at Safety Day.

"We have individuals talking about electrical safety. We have people talking about poison and chemical safety, ag equipment and grain safety, 911 home safety, bicycle and pedestrian safety, fire safety, animal safety, and water and ice safety. Representatives from our region here in Humboldt and are, as well as Regina and other communities too."

This is the ninth time that Agriculture Safety day has been held.

"It's been long-standing in the region," explained Hinz. " We're really fortunate to have the support of our sponsors. Progressive Agriculture Foundation is key, they help to have all the safety days across North America up and running. Locally though, our sponsors Potash Corp Lanigan, Farm Credit Canada, the Canadian Agriculture Safety Association and Sask Milk really help to get our local program running every year so we're thankful for that."

She adds that the location of the event changes every year with next year's event taking place in Humboldt.
