Elections Saskatchewan had a hunch there would be strong turnout for advance voting, and so far they are right.

The first day of advance polls being open was Tuesday, and there was a 50 per cent jump in voters, compared to the first day of advance voting in the 2011 provincial election.

In 2011 there were 16,096 ballots cast and on Tuesday there were 24,602 ballots cast across the province.

Elections Saskatchewan spokesperson Tim Kydd talked about how the day went.

"We had some areas where there were more voters than we expected, primarily in the big cities but we had back up teams trained and ready to be deployed and we did that and we found that lines diminished within an hour and a half."

Advance voting runs 3-10pm Thursday and Friday, and noon until 7 on Saturday.

Kydd had a couple of suggestions if you plan on voting early, "any voters who have flexibility in their day we encourage them to come later in the day and avoid the first hour rush from 3 to 4 and secondly we remind voters to come prepared with their ID and if they received a voter information card bring that as well it makes the experience faster and easier."

For the Humboldt-Watrous riding, advanced polling locations are at the Royal Canadian Legion in Humboldt, Watrous Heritage Hall, Meacham Community Hall, and St. Denis Community Centre
