Elgar Petersen, is a name that goes hand-in-hand with the Broncos. Elgar Petersen a name that will not soon be forgotten who passed away on November 3rd 2018. Last November he was pleased to see players and coaches from the 2017-2018 season come and visit in Cudworth when they open their rink with a brand new artificial ice surface. Months after the day that no one in Humboldt and area can forget, the community outreach still pours in for those affected by the bus crash. In the first week of November 2018, the Calgary Flames organization has sent out the warmest of condolences to the family of the late Darcy Haugan. They invited Haugan's sons, Carson and Jackson, to participate in practice with the team and take in some professional critiquing from current NHL coaches. The event was well-kept under wraps and shows the good intentions that were meant by the Flames organization towards the privacy of the family. A cheque presentation to the Humboldt District Hospital Foundation (HDHF) took place on November 14th at Diamonds of Detriot with the funds coming from the Diamond Dash competition in Humboldt. The competition saw teams use clues to dash around a scavenger hunt in Humboldt where they would perform tasks to collect points. The prize on the line was a diamond ring from Diamonds of Detroit. On November 16th in Saskatoon at a awards gala presented by the Saskatchewan Early Childhood Association, HPS Childcare Center won the Outstanding Centre of the Year Award in Saskatchewan. One local young woman was the recipient of a very important scholarship. Paige Daubenfeld is a 2018 graduate of St. Brieux School. She will be receiving the 2018-19 Chancellors’ Award from the University of Saskatchewan. The scholarship, which is awarded based on academic achievement at a Canadian high school, provides $7,500 over four years, for a total of $30,000. The RBC Beef Supreme Challenge is considered to be the "Superbowl" of the beef industry in North America. On Saturday, at Canadian Western Agrobition in Regina the Beef Supreme challenge took place. The champion of the event for 2018 was Blair's Ag. Cattle Company. Their Black Angus Female named PM-Echo and her calf alongside won the company $10,000 and the championship belt.
