A pancake breakfast was organized to benefit a family in need.

The Knights of Columbus raised funds for the Shabatoski family at the St. Augustine Parish Hall on Sunday and money was also raised for the family through a silent auction.

Jackie Shabatoski, who is originally from Humboldt, and her husband Dean have three out of five children with muscular dystrophy. The family is in need of a disability van worth a retail price of around $55,000. So far a GoFundMe page has raised $40,000, with a goal of $75,000.

"I can't travel anywhere because I can't lift them into the van. So Dean has to be here in order to do that," said Jackie Shabatoski.

The van will feature a lift to get the three kids and their wheelchairs into the van. It will also be able to fit the whole family so they can travel together.

"It means we can travel and go to different places and see different things. Right now we are limited as to where we can go, so it would mean a lot of freedom for our family."

The family is currently living in Clavet, Saskatchewan and even when being so far away Humboldt, the community is still showing their support.

"With Humboldt and all of the events they have been going through with the Broncos and to open their arms to us still, it just shows what a great hometown we are from."
