LisaMoenCountry music artist Lisa Moen is one of many artists to perform on the stage at Hank's Tavern in Bradwell.

The Saskatchewan Country Music Association will distribute their awards this weekend in Yorkton with the bar in Bradwell on the nomination list.

Hank's Tavern is an SCMA Award hopeful in the Nightclub of the Year category for promoting Saskatchewan country music.

Owner Hank Ukrainetz said this was a surprise for an establishment in the town of just over two hundred.

"I don't classify myself as a big accomplished person to win an award, I just wanted to have live bands come out and to promote smaller bands but never thought that it would turn into something like this."

She says her love of music and live entertainment has made this an easy thing to do, "that's all I was raised on was live music so I want to get bands names and songs heard, getting it out to the public. Artists get big for a reason, it's because of the fans and the more fans they have, the more people will buy their music and there's only one way for that to happen and that's for them to listen to them."

When Ukrainetz received her email nomination she said it was really hard to believe.

"I was reading it over and over again," she said. "And then I just started crying because I couldn't believe that this was happening. I never thought in a million years that this would ever happen," added Ukrainetz.

When Ukrainetz purchased her business in 2009 she had an eventual vision for the bar, but after a sewer line broke a year in, she got started on renovations a little sooner than she initially planned.

An addition was built making space for bands to perform inside, instead of just outside in the summer months where she began hosting them.

The long list of bands the Tavern has hosted inlcude Jordan Cook, No Fixed Address, and Penny Reign, with country artists such as Lisa Moen, Will Ardell, Michael Lander, and Topher Mills.

Will Ardell is up for numerous awards as well on the weekend including male vocalist of the year, and Lisa Moen is nominated for the Rising Star award at the 2015 awards.

Outside of her business Ukrainetz promotes and sponsors Saskatchewan country music events including the CMAS Annual Open Curling Bonspiel, and the SCMA's.

Volunteering for events like the SCMA's is another way she supports country music in the province.

In 2013, Ukrainetz presented an award at the SCMA industry awards on behalf of Great Western Breweries for Drummer of the Year.

The SCMA's take place from April 24-26 in Yorkton.
