Two people are dead after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday evening on Highway 16, about five kilometres east of Colonsay.

Saskatoon RCMP, Colonsay Fire Department and EMS responded around 8:40 p.m., RCMP said in a news release.

Initial investigation has determined that an east-bound pickup truck collided with a west-bound pickup truck.

Both drivers, the lone occupants of each vehicle, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was restricted while an RCMP Collision Reconstructionist assisted in the initial investigation and has since reopened.

The RCMP and the Office of the Chief Coroner continue to investigate.
