The Lake Lenore sports grounds were filled with slo-pitch players, frog racers, and many more as the community held their annual heatwave.

Despite the rainy weather, the event is being considered a success with the amount of people who attended the 2016 celebration.

Kim Moorman is on the organizing committee for the Lake Lenore Heatwave.

She says this couldn't be done without sponsors.

"We have lot's of wonderful sponsors that help out every year. Affinity Credit Union, Horizon Fertilizers, Conexus Insurance, Century 21, Potash Corp, Berscheid Brothers Seeds, CMI Terminal, Sunrise foods international, Richardson Pioneer, Strueby plumbing and heating, and lake Lenore Co-op Agro"

Moorman explains what makes the Heatwave a great event.

"The Heatwave is our community event that is put on by all of the different groups we have here in our community. And it's here to raise money for the community, all the money goes right back into the community."

Moorman explains that despite the weather, support is overwhelming.

"It just goes to show how great the community is. Everybody wants to come out and have a good time, and they're looking for ways to support the community, and this is a great way to do it and have fun."

Events at this years Heatwave included the annual slo-pitch tournament, a test drive event for team Mexico, and kids frog races.

The heatwave continues Saturday night with a cabaret, and concludes Sunday with Church mass and a pancake brunch.
