A chippy affair saw the Midget AA Broncos pick up a 5-4 win over Battlefords on Friday night in Humboldt.

A total of 76 penalty minutes were dished out, which led to 23 power plays in the game.

Battlefords got on the scoreboard first early in the first period, with Damon Vanderlinde replying for Humboldt to make it 1-1 through the first period.

The Barons scored the lone goal late in the second period on the man advantage to take a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes.

In the third period, Humboldt exploded for four goals, including two more by Vanderlinde for the hat trick. Brock Morrow and Prescott Senger added the other tallies.

Ryland Pronych made 18 saves in goal for the win.

On Sunday, the Broncos visited Nipawin to meet North East.

Maguire Scheidt got the visitors on the board first, with North East replying on the power play for a 1-1 tie through 20 minutes.

The middle frame saw the Broncos take a 3-2 lead on goals by Gavin Ingram and Morrow. Ingram's marker came shorthanded to initially tie the game 2-2.

In the third period, the Broncos slipped behind, as North East rattled off three straight goals to take a 5-3 win.

Humboldt is 15-5-1 on the season and sits in fourth place in the Centre Four Hockey League, two points behind Unity for third place.

Next, the Broncos are in Saskatoon for a pair of weekend games, taking on the Screaming Eagles on Saturday and the Sabercats on Sunday.
