The Watrous Winterhawks are the 2016-17 Long Lake Lake Hockey League champions.

They defeated the Lanigan Pirates 4-0 Tuesday night on their home ice for their first title since 2007-2008.

Head Coach Lane Manson was soaking it in when his players raised the trophy.

"They have a goalie over there like David Reekie, he can steal a whole series never mind a game but we just had a group of guys that weren't going to be denied this year. There is still work to but we had a core group of guys, we added a few guys that fit in real well with our team this year and it's been a real fun season so far."

Craig McCallum and Trent Campbelll each scored twice while Brennan Duncan made 21 saves for the shutout.

After taking a 2-0 lead to the room after the first, it was McCallum's short handed marker early in the second making it 3-0 that seemed to deflate the Pirates.

"You could definitely smell it," Manson admitted. "It's senior hockey so could happen but just the roll we're on right now we could feel it."

As Manson explained, they aren't done, they will now face the Gull Lake Greyhounds in the Senior "B" Hockey provincial final starting Saturday night in Gull Lake.

Game two is Saturday March 25th in Watrous, if necessary game three will also be in Watrous on the next night.

"We don't know a lot about them but when you get to a provincial final it's always going to be a big challenge," Manson predicted. "We will enjoy this tonight and then get our focus back and get ready to go for the finals."

Golden West Radio in Swift Current will be broadcasting the finals, you can listen live here.
