17 year-old Humboldt product Jacob Wassermann has signed a 'standard player's agreement' with the Western hockey League's Vancouver Giants.

Wassermann was drafted in the eighth round by the Giants in the 2015 Bantam draft following an injury shortened season with the AA Bantam Broncos.

Following his Bantam days Wassermann backstopped the AA Midgets to a Centre Four Hockey League and provincial title over the Notre Dame Hounds.

"We are happy to add Jacob to our depth in goal," Giants General Manager Glen Hanlon stated on the Giants website. "He improved steadily last year and was the major reason that the Saskatoon Blazers pushed the eventual league champion Regina Pat Canadians to a fifth and deciding game in their first-round series. This is another signing that will continue to bring competition at all positions in training camp for our team."

This past season he made the jump to the Saskatoon Blazers of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League this season posting a 10-13 record in 26 games. In the playoffs he put up a 1.81 goals against average and 0.947 save percentage those five games.

"It's been a goal of mine to sign with the Giants ever since they drafted me," said Wassermann. "They're a great organization, and I've wanted to play in the Western Hockey League since I was a kid. I've been working hard to get to this point, so it's very exciting."

Wassermann has dressed for a handful of games with the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's Broncos over the past couple seasons, he has yet to see any action.
