Competing in the Saskatchewan Summer Games in Estevan, Tayden Wallin claimed the first gold medal for Humboldt athletes on Wednesday.

Wallin finished four points clear of Yorkton's Kade Johnson to win the Men's Golf event. The HCI student fired a 66 in the second and final round to finish with 128 points in the stableford scoring format.

The format awards points per hole result. A pair of eagles in the final round helped push Wallin over the top, as they accounted for seven points each.

Wallin has been rising on the Golf Saskatchewan rankings for junior players over the past two years and will continue a battle with Johnson for the top of the Order of Merit rankings throughout August.

There was also a team award, which had the scores of three golfers from each district combined. Wallin and his Prairie Central teammates - Rylan Sokul and Carson Froehlich of Wynyard - won the bronze medal.

After winning three gold medals in provincial high school track in June, Humboldt's Taylor Zwarych added three more medals to her collection.

Individually, Zwarych claimed bronze medals in the 100-metre and 200-metre runs, while she earned her third medal - silver - as part of Prairie Central's 4x100 relay team.

Elstow's Payne Wylie was among the most decorated athletes in track, winning a total of five medals over the three days of competition.

Wylie won gold in 110-metre and 300-metre Hurdles, while taking silver in high jump and bronze in the 200-metre and sprint medley.
