Humboldt's Taylor Zwarych put in a dominant performance on the track Friday and Saturday, as the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association hosted provincials in Regina.

Zwarych earned three gold medals, winning the 80-metre Hurdles, as well as the 100 and 200-metre runs in Midget Girls.

"It feels pretty good, knowing all the hard work and practicing has paid off in the end," she said.

On Friday, she picked up her first medal in hurdles, winning with a time of 12.66 - .31 seconds clear of the next runner. The 100m dash saw a closer competition, but still a clear cut win for Zwarych by .15 seconds with a time of 12.79.

Her strong performance continued Saturday afternoon, where she ran away from the pack with a time of 26.45 - nearly half a second faster than the runner-up in the 200m.

With the triple gold effort, Zwarych became the first Mohawks girl since Brianne Theisen in 2007 to win multiple gold medals at a single provincial track meet.

"It's pretty cool because Brianne is in the Olympics and I look up to her a lot because she is from Humboldt," she explained. "I've been trying to break some of her records, but I couldn't quite make it."

Zwarych says that she is looking forward to continuing on with track and trying to keep improving.

"I will definitely keep on with track in high school, and if I do it in university or college, that would be great."

With her three first place finishes, Zwarych also finished third overall among Midget Girls in the aggregate points total.

The Mohawks saw one other medalist at track, as Grade 12 student Makenzie Senko earned silver in Senior Girls Discus.

Athletes earned points for their school if they finished in the Top 8, and the Mohawks had 19 placings in the Top 8, giving them a total of 280.50 points as a school, which amounted to a second overall finish among 3A schools.

They missed out on first place by just five and a half points to Moose Jaw Peacock.
