128 kids began their introduction into the world of Track and Field Saturday at the annual Sole-stice Classic Meet.

The free event, sponsored by Sask Athletics, welcomed participants who were born between the years 2005-2010.

Head volunteer and organizer, Nicole Unrau, says it's a chance for kids to get involved in track and field and try the sport.

"It's supposed to be a "for fun" program with a little bit of competition involved," she explains.

Standing Long Jump, Running Long Jump, Softball throw, 50m, 60m, and 80m Dash and 600m & 800m Run events were explored by the young athletes.

The top three kids in each event received ribbons, and the top two get to advance to a provincial track meet in Saskatoon in June.

"It's very exciting for these kids to have the chance to advance in something," says Unrau.

With the competition aspect aside, Unrau says fun is the 'name of the game' for the most part at the Sole-stice Classic.

"For most of the kids, it's just all about the fun and the participation and learning how to do a new sport."
