Eight area teams will be looking to call themselves the best in Saskatchewan, as provincial high school girls volleyball championships get underway.

Three teams are hosting tournaments - Rose Valley and Kelvington are teaming up to host 1A teams, while Muenster welcomes 2A teams and Lanigan is holding 4A provincials.

Another five teams - Englefeld, Ituna, Wynyard, Naicam and Wakaw will be in the hunt for titles in addition to the host teams.

Games begin at 12:00pm in all classifications.

In the 1A tournament, Rose Valley will look to make good on a strong run in 2015, where they finished just shy of the championship, picking up silver.

Englefeld will also look to upgrade their medal colour. The Eagles have won the bronze medal for the last two years at provincials.

Other teams in the field are Frontier, Midale, Plenty, Perdue, Dinsmore, Goodsoil, Lemberg and Fox Valley.

The 2A tournament in Muenster will see games split between the Muenster School and St. Peter's College.

It is the first appearance at provincials for the Cougars since 2008.

They will battle for the title with Pierceland, Kahkewistahaw, Langham, Ituna, Kerrobert, Rossignol, Medstead, Invermay and LCBI.

In the 3A competition, the Wakaw Warriors are seeking their second straight provincial championship and overall, eighth in ten years.

The Warriors have dominated the provincial volleyball landscape for a decade, taking silver in the two years they have not won the provincial title.

Two other area teams will be looking to take the crown from Wakaw.

The Wynyard Bears were on the losing side of a tight championship game to Wakaw last year, falling in three sets.

Wynyard went undefeated in conference and regional play to make their return to provincials.

After losing in the quarter-finals last year, the Naicam Vikings are back in provincials looking to make a run as well.

Kinistino, Waldheim, Rocanville, Kipling, Oxbow, Langenburg and Wilkie are the other teams competing at the tournament in Kipling.

The 4A championship takes place in Lanigan, where the high school and elementary school are hosting games.

Lanigan won both the conference and regional in Humboldt to ensure they entered the provincial tournament in strong fashion.

The Lazers won the provincial championship in 2014 and picked up a bronze in 2013.

Defending champion Caronport is back in the field, with Tisdale, Lumsden, Maple Creek, Rosetown, Unity, Outlook, Notre Dame, and La Loche making up the rest of the field.
