Humboldt's Brianne Theisen-Eaton is leaving Beijing, and the IAAF World Championships with a silver medal.

It is the 26-year-old's second career silver at the Worlds, earning a second place finish at the event in Moscow, Russia in 2013.

Theisen-Eaton got off to a strong start, opening up the event with a personal best run of 12.98 seconds in the 100m Hurdles.

From there, the Commonwealth Gold Medalist rounded out the first day of competition with a 13.70m best in Shot Put, a time of 23.94 seconds in the 200m run, and a jump of 1.80m in the high jump event.

Theisen-Eaton's day one performance left her sitting fourth overall.

It was another strong start to the day for the finale of the Heptathlon competition that really secured her spot in second.

Finishing second overall in long jump with a best of 6.55 metres, that, combined with a disqualification from Britain's Katarina Johnson-Thompson - who failed to make a qualifying jump in all three attempts - lifted Theisen-Eaton in to the silver medal spot.

The HCI grad closed off the competition behind her over the final two events, narrowly missing a personal best in Javelin by two centimetres at 42.94m before finishing the competition with a run of two minutes, 11 seconds in the 800-metre.

She finished the event with atotal of 6,554 points.

Since the London Games in 2012, Theisen-Eaton has closed the gap considerably on Ennis. In London, the Canadian Heptathlon record holder, Theisen-Eaton, finished 572 points back.

Now, less than one year from Rio de Janeiro, and the 2016 Summer Games, Theisen-Eaton is within striking distance after finishing just 115 points out of Gold.
