For Kirk Muyres and his brother Dallen, originally from St. Gregor, the goal is nothing short of the Olympics. Another step toward that goal was made this past weekend.

Team Muyres won The Grand Slam Tier 2 Tour Challange in Thunder Bay, Ontario that was taking place from November 6th-11th. Tier 1 consists of the Top 15 teams in the world, with the next 15 being slotted into Tier 2.

"It was cool, Dallen and I have played in a bunch of grand slams over the years and they never get old. The place is always packed and it's always exciting. For us to get back into the grand slams and win one of those events that qualify us for the Pro Tour is pretty exciting, it was great to get out there, play, and dominate and win like that," said Kirk.

During the Tour Challange, Team Muyres went 4-0 through the round robin. In the Quarter Finals, he outplayed Glen Muirhead from Scotland 5-4. The semis had him face off against Charlie Thomas out of Toronto, ON whom he defeated 6-5, and in the finals, he was victorious over Kingston, ON native Scott McDonald to run through the entire tournament undefeated.

Victory in this tournament qualifies Team Muyres for multiple events down the road. First off, they will move up into Tier 1 of the Tour Challenge. Along with the move up to Tier 1, they qualify for the Canadian Open in North Battleford taking place in early January, as well as the next two grand slams in Newfoundland this December and Saskatoon in April 2019.

"We've kinda solidified our spot in those tournaments if we keep playing well. That was the big goal for this season, and it looks like we got one of those goals checked off."

The Muyres brothers have been a mainstay around Tier 1 as apart of Team Laycock in the past. This year the brothers went their own way and started a new team, and now find themselves back among the upper elite teams in the world.
