The Broncos early season struggles with Battlefords continued Friday night as they dropped their second straight 5-0 decision to the Stars.

Going into the third meeting between the Finning division foes this year Humboldt is 0-2 and been outscored 11-2.

The Broncos did provide some early jump to look like they could compete at the Civic Centre in their first visit, in fact they created the game's first power-play chance but after one of the Broncos lost their footing in the corner Jake McMillen and Reed Delainey used the break to beat Brett Friesen while short handed opening a 1-0 lead 7:40 into the contest.

Those two would help Igor Leonenko slap a power-play tally past Friesen just past the 10 minute mark to open a 2-0 lead.

Friesen would finish with 26/31 for the net, the 18 year-old Carberry, Manitoba product looked sharp despite the inflated numbers, his rookie record sits at 0-5-1.

He continued to hold the Stars at bay through the middle frame, just Layne Young beat him on a breakaway that was kicked in off his own defenseman in an unlucky bounce making it 3-0 after two periods.

The Stars added two more in the third including another power-play goal late to Delainey.

The shots finished 31-15 in favour of the Stars, after the second period the Broncos had only mustered seven chances on Ryan Rewerts who collected the shut-out.

Assistant Coach Brayden Klimosko wasn't too happy with his team's performance after the game relating it to their previous loss at the Showcase.

"That night you know we were working hard, we were trying hard and things just didn't work out for you but tonight it wasn't quite that. It just wasn't good, there's no way else to sugar coat it. We just weren't skating, we weren't ready for the game, it looked like we lost the game before it started here."

Humboldt finished 0/2 with the man advantage, the Stars scored twice on six chances.

Fortunately for the green and gold they can rebound in a hurry with the Yorkton Terriers visiting Saturday night.

Klimosko is confident they will bounce back.

"We've got to be better, plain and simple it's got to be better. We just didn't executive, we didn't do nothing right, it was a tough game."
