The Broncos struggles with the Battlefords continued Wednesday night at the Elgar Petersen Arena as their losing streak to the Stars expanded to ten games after a 5-3 loss.

Humboldt hasn't gained two points from the Stars since January 28th, 2015.

The short coming was also the green and gold's fourth straight downfall dropping their record to 15-10-1 on the campaign.

"There was some positives obviously, some steps I thought we were taking forward," Head Coach Darcy Haugan steamed on the post game show. "But again, focus is probably the biggest for us that certain guys lack."

One thing in common during this slide is early deficits, however their 1-0 hole after the first frame was the smallest of the prior three, Cody Spagrud beat Garrett Mason in the opening period.

Coby Downs would add another in the second, it was 2-0 after 40 minutes.

Ben Allen converted on a power-play just seconds into the third widening the gap to what many thought would be an insurmountable margin of 3-0.

The Broncos would thunder back, Erik Gardiner snapped his 11th past  Taryn Kotchorek to make it 3-1 just 3:20 in. Parker Wakaruk picked up the lone assist winning a puck battle at the Humboldt blueline allowing Gardiner to hit open ice during four-on-four play.

The Stars responded at the midway point to again draw the wind from the home team's sails. Logan Nachtegaele deflected a point shot past Mason.

The Broncos scrapped back again, the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League's top sniper went to work to try and get his team two points, Chris Van Os-Shaw notched his 18th and 19th goals just 2:45 apart bringing Humboldt within one with just over three minutes resuming.

Immediately off the ensuing face-off Downs would take a four minute penalty for spearing Laramie Kostelansky. With the Stars reeling and the Broncos smelling blood they allowed Layne Young to set up McGregor Sinclair during on a two on one rush to regain the two goal gap halting the hopes of a comeback.

"Our top end guys, you want them to be dialed in and they should really smell the blood in the water," Haugan said of the back breaking tally. "They should sense it and be like sharks attacking but we just...yeah it's really disheartening and it will be addressed."

Mason suffered the loss in goal turning aside 38/43 shots during a busy night, Kotchorek was less resourceful making 25 stops in the win, his 12th.

Special teams played a part again for the Broncos, they were 1/3 with the man advantage but they killed only one of their three minors. In the four games, they have given up eight power-play markers, they've scored twice.

The Broncos will now prepare to face Flin Flon on the road Friday(7:15/7:30 107.5 Bolt FM), and Saturday they face the LaRonge Ice Wolves(6:45/7pm 107.5 Bolt FM).

Elsewhere in the SJHL Wednesday, Notre Dame moved to within a point of Humboldt for second in the Finning Division with a 7-2 romp of Melfort, LaRonge doubled Kindersley 4-2 and Weyburn edged Melville 2-1.

You can hear Haugan's complete post game comments below as well as from newest Bronco, Cole Young who joined Clark Stork during the first intermission.
